1910
Robert Baden-Powell formed the Girl Guides with just a handful of girls and the help
of his sister Agnes. Although their numbers were small, the girls
passionately believed that they should have the same opportunities to
develop their skills and abilities as Boy Scouts.
It is extraordinary to think that from such humble beginnings Girlguiding UK
has grown to be
largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in the UK, and that
there are a staggering ten million girls and women involved in Guiding
worldwide.
